Protecode Upgrades Flagship Product and Compact File Scanning Tools

Protecode (News - Alert), an open source software license management tools provider, has upgraded its flagship product, Protecode System 4, and the new unlimited file scanning tool, Protecode Compact. Open source software also requires users to possess a license to use, just like commercial software that must be followed diligently. Protecode helps in managing all open source licenses.

Normand Glaude, chief operating officer, Protecode remarked, “Open source license management is evolving. Our recent workflow integration, usability and obligation management enhancements reflect the needs of our customers and the ever changing landscape.”

A specialist in products and services for managing open source software licenses, Protecode ensures accurate and fast code scanning in real-time and on-demand. It enables the delivery of policy-based reports on obligations and security vulnerabilities in code portfolios.

The enhancements made by the company are updated command-line invocation, new automation reporting options, augmented encryption detection features and a new graphical dashboard.

The new graphical dashboard enables a single-glance view of licenses, policy warnings, violations, and the approval process. The automated workflow feature includes a new CSV report that is triggered using the command line interface.

Also, code scans are automated with a continuous integration tool like Jenkins to produce a CSV report that highlights all code attributes such as license and copyright information, policy violations, approval status, encryption content and security vulnerabilities.

Further automation can be ensured as reports can be processed by external scripts or imported into Excel for further personalization. Textual reports are generated in Microsoft (News - Alert) Word and PDF formats so that they can be used easily and are customizable.

Protecode’s encryption detection algorithm can isolate code containing encryption content which is useful as export controls make disclosure of encryption algorithms embedded in the product necessary. The company is focusing on developing better user interfaces and usability features.

The popularity of Protecode products among users is because they are built for ease-of-use and integration and their minimal intrusion into existing development processes. Smaller as well as large organizations benefit a lot from Protecode products and services, pointed out officials.

In September 2013, Protecode introduced Protecode Compact, a smaller version of the far larger Protecode System 4. The Compact version is easier to install, using just one click to get it onto a Windows machine. This version is aimed at smaller technology-oriented shops.
