Numecent and Software2 Jointly Delivering Over 9 Million Cloudpaged Sessions

From corporate environments to the education sector, the adoption of cloud seems to be growing. During this progression, cloud computing has spurred the development of several other related technologies, and cloud paging is one such offshoots. Born with the goal of making native software delivery as simple, agile, rapid and friction-free as a single click on a website, cloud paging represents a new form of virtualization, which can be called “application virtualization”. It aims to turn applications into a service. In other words, the technology supports the streaming of applications from the cloud.

Numecent, a provider of cloud paging technology, has partnered with software solutions company Software2 to bring this technology to the UK’s education sector. Software2 specializes in deploying Numecent's Application Jukebox Suite in educational sector. Under the partnership, the two companies have delivered more than 9-million cloudpaged application sessions at 40 Universities across the UK. More than 250,000 students and staff, including a rapidly growing number of BYOD users, are reaping the benefits of this massive deployment, creating a thriving community of users and technical specialists. Inspired by this huge success, Software2 is all set to expand its operations into the USA and the rest of the EU and bring the benefits of cloud paging to even larger student populations around the world.

According to Osman Kent, co-founder and CEO of Numecent, universities represent a very strategic market for the company.

“With ever-shrinking IT budgets and a transient yet growing user population, Universities have to maximize their IT productivity while providing competitive and educational value add to their users. Our cloudpaging offerings, together with Software2's razor-sharp community focus, provide just that - substantial savings in IT costs while offering the students and staff the best 24/7 access to the applications they need which are essential components of receiving their degree,” Kent explained in a statement.

Built on its cloud paging platform, Numecent's Jukebox suite of products is designed to enable easy deployment of any Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows application in the cloud or on-premises. In addition to helping cut costs, Jukebox enables enterprises to remain compliant with complex licensing requirements and even provides private Software-as-a-Service offerings to their users for their native Windows applications.

Co-founder and COO of Software2 Tony Austwick said that with more than a quarter of a million users benefiting from Numecent's unique cloud paging technology, the partnership represents an industry milestone for the education sector, showing how universities can provide a vastly improved computing experience for students while substantially reducing the IT costs at the same time.
