MEN Micro PCI Express Mini Card with GNSS Receiver for High Positional Accuracy

MEN Micro, a provider of embedded computing and I/O solutions has unveiled PX1, a new PCI (News - Alert) express mini card that leverages the GNSS receiver for data transmissions from both GPS and GLONASS systems.

The company serves the needs of mission-critical industrial, mobile and harsh environment applications. The solutions are suitable for transportation, industrial automation, power and energy, medical and mining markets.

The mini card is designed to support active and passive antennas via a U.FL connector to deliver optimized satellite-based communication. The card features a gyroscope sensor which offers dead reckoning functionality. This enables accurate position identification in spite of interruptions in satellite signal which occurs when traveling through a tunnel.

The PX1 is most suitable for fleet management applications owing to the presence of the gyroscope and the board’s GNSS receiver. It can be used in commercial vehicles like trains, buses, ships and airplanes which travel around the world.

Satellite-based augmentation systems or SBAS enhance the accuracy, reliability, and availability of the GNSS information, and PX1 supports them to ensure greater positioning accuracy, said officials.

The mini card handles data provided by GPS and GLONASS satellite systems besides also supporting communications on the European Galileo system -- which is expected to be launched in 2014 -- and the Chinese Compass (News - Alert) system that will also be available soon.

MEN Micro also provides reliable embedded COTS boards, rugged COMs, scalable box PCs, safe computers and supporting devices that are suitable for use in extreme environmental conditions.

The company specializes in x86 and RISC processor architectures, development rules for safe applications, analog I/O design, FPGA technology and Windows, Linux and real-time operating systems in addition to RAMS, obsolescence management and providing customization support.

Recently, MEN Micro launched its CompactPCI (News - Alert) PlusIO SBC (single board computer) a versatile, high-performance F22P that employs Intel’s (News - Alert) 3rd generation Core i7 processor.
