Amdocs Successfully Tests Fully Virtualized Real-Time Charging

Amdocs (News - Alert), a provider of customer care, billing and order management systems for telecommunications carriers and Internet service providers, has reportedly performed successful testing of Amdocs Convergent Charging, the industry's first virtualized, real-time charging solution.

The testing was performed in a production-like environment, at Amdocs' labs. The performance was comparable to that of carrier-grade charging solutions. A highly impressive result featuring five millisecond latency and sub-second failover (switching between servers) shows that the solution can be relied upon by businesses to ensure business continuity.

Amdocs reportedly developed the testing methodology in partnership with VMware. The test result also proves that the charging solution can support mission-critical, real-time charging processes in virtualized environment for the service providers, who in turn cater to millions of subscribers.

Based on Amdocs' real-time charging technology, Amdocs Turbo Charging and Amdocs Convergent Charging, can be used on-demand and expected to help service providers dramatically reduce hardware requirements. With Amdocs Turbo Charging technology, this virtualized, real-time charging solution enables best-in-class charging performance on Linux-based software.

“The industry is evolving towards network function virtualization as a way to help service providers decouple software workloads from hardware to considerably improve cost-efficiencies and business agility. To ensure our customers can benefit from the latest advancements in this area, we certified our CES (News - Alert) 9 product portfolio on VMware vSphere and introduced the industry's first, virtualized network control, and now, real-time charging systems,” the vice president of product and solutions marketing at Amdocs explained in a statement.

Early this year, Amdocs released Amdocs CES 9, the company's latest customer experience product suite. This major release redefines the service provider's operating environment by delivering real-time integration from the device to the network, breaking down the traditional barriers to service and system convergence and enabling enriched customer experiences.
