The Cloud is Safe for E-mail

There may be no disputing the cost benefits and operational efficiencies that accrue to moving to the cloud. Use cases now abound that prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that pay-as-you-go/pay-as-you-grow capabilities, along with having the flexibility to scale, support virtual workers and provide access to enterprise applications can save money and increase operational performance on a variety of scores.

However, there remain a few myths and misconceptions. At a high level, the biggest misconception is that the cloud, for all of its benefits, is less secure than doing things the way they have been traditionally done. Whether concerns are about physical risks, lack of understanding about such options as private vs. public clouds, hybrid vs. public and private clouds or private vs. multi-tenant, security is still a potential obstacle in many IT professionals’ minds as to when, where, what, how, and why to move to the cloud.

In addition, there are questions revolving around data integrity. These include when, where and how it is stored, how secure it is when “on the move,” and skepticism about what happens to data during its migration to the cloud. The facts, as validated over and over, are that in many if not most instances the cloud is actually more secure than what you may be doing right now. Yet, concerns exist and one of the biggest areas where questions arise is in regards to putting your enterprise e-mail in the hands of a trusted cloud services provider.

In two words, “fear not.”

Despite all the headlines about security breaches, enterprises of all sizes are moving their e-mail to the cloud and have been pleasantly surprised by how much control they have along with the peace of mind they now have as well regarding risk mitigation and the possibilities of their e-mail being compromised by those with malicious intent.

If you are evaluating whether it is safe to more your e-mail to the cloud, you may be in that group that still has questions and needs convincing. If that is the case, the July 23 webinar, “Data Security…A Top Concern Overcoming Email Security Stigma in the Cloud,” to be held at 2 p.m. EDT, has been designed to specifically address your concerns. Members of the MessageSolution (News - Alert) team and savvisdirect will join me in discussing all of the issues involving moving e-mail to the cloud and answering your questions.

This will be not just a hands-on way to learn more about all of the questions involving, why, when, how and with whom. In recognition that seeing is believing, and to prove that there is no need to fear, attendees will be eligible for a free month of any savvisdirect Application service, including MessageSolution’s Enterprise Email Archive for the cloud.

What you are looking for in an age of increased risk is a security management solution that is extensive and gives you the visibility you require and the control you need to be able to act not just reactively but proactively. Let’s face it: as a result of data breaches, and the growing compliance and corporate governance requirements, secured e-mail – while it has always been critical – has now taken on a greater urgency. This means improving e-mail security is a top of mind priority and all aspects of e-mail security are or should be under review. Moving to the cloud may be just the thing your organization needs to have better control and visibility into managing e-mails, particularly as the workforce being supported becomes more virtual and more mobile. Now would be a good time to take secure cloud-based e-mail out for a test drive.
