SEVEN (News - Alert) Networks, a provider of mobile traffic management and optimization software, enhanced its Open Channel family of products with the addition of Open Channel software that will enable wireless carriers to easily deploy the server component in-network.
The new Open Channel software will provide carriers with an alternative deployment option besides the hosted deployment that was made available in the previous version. It is designed to run on two single rack unit servers for an initial deployment and later on more servers can be added to scale to tens of millions of users. The software is based on standard open source operating system and database software thereby reducing costs and complexity.
Generally, mobile carriers prefer in-network deployment for long-term as well as large-scale use but they are more complex and difficult to deploy. The new Open Channel software helps mobile carriers by delivering plug-and-play in-network deployment capability with minimal network integration is required with no need for custom coding which further reduces time for deployment of software.
“The introduction of a plug-and-play in-network version of the Open Channel platform is a significant enabler for the market. Our development team has worked hard to make deployment as easy and fast as possible, offering outstanding time-to-value for carriers,” said Ross Bott (News - Alert), president and CEO of SEVEN Networks.
The Open Channel platform also offers a cloud deployment model to serve the needs of initial device launches that allows time for the in-network deployment to take shape. This way the hosted model reduces deployment time and offers enough flexibility to operators to select a deployment model according to their business needs.
The software features a client component for the mobile handset which is expected to extend control to the mobile handset. This allows for easy management besides also optimizing mobile traffic proactively thereby conserving network resources cost effectively.
