FileTek Debuts ForeverNAS StorHouse Technology

As the volume of critical long-term data continues to grow at an exponential rate, most system administrators still rely on standard NAS technology for storing long-term data. But, in reality, managing long-term data with standard NAS technology is not the most efficient way.

FileTek, a provider of data management and storage virtualization solutions, is simplifying this long-term storage strategy with its new ForeverNAS StorHouse technology.

StorHouse ForeverNAS effectively combines the positives of standard NAS solutions with a layer of intelligent storage management features to deliver a more effective and efficient long-term storage alternative than NAS-only solutions can provide.

“It is amazing to see how companies have evolved their thinking on how much and how long data should be stored,” commented Mark Seamans, chief technology officer of FileTek, in a statement. “ForeverNAS concept makes a lot of sense to our growing customer base.”

While standard NAS solutions effectively meet the requirements for primary, or Tier 1, storage, they do not provide the ForeverNAS features necessary to manage large volumes of critical data on a long-term basis. These features include a highly scalable global namespace that accommodates future storage growth with no adverse effects on system performance, data integrity protection, and a hardware agnostic strategy that blends cost-effective storage options in a multi-tier strategy while maintaining a NAS interface.

ForeverNAS also supports an open storage architecture that seamlessly incorporates the “next big thing” (NBT) storage technologies as they become available, data migration from obsolete storage devices and media types to new ones transparently and automatically during normal system operation, and a flexible policy creation engine for automating storage management features such as migration, backup, active archive, retention, replication, and recovery.

Moreover, organizations can add the StorHouse/Trusted Edge front-end intelligent storage migration management module to the ForeverNAS architecture to create a holistic solution that performs storage analysis, data migration and storage management functions in a single system.

FileTek also recently announced that its StorHouse comprehensive data management platform now supports LTO-6 tape drives and media. StorHouse can archive, retrieve, and back up massive amounts of relational and file-based information using an automatically managed pool of traditional and alternative storage devices.
