By Calvin AzuriCogeco Data Services has launched its latest multi-million dollar data center, located in Barrie, north of Toronto, Ontario. With the rising requirement for cloud and managed services, data requirements across the globe have also stepped up. Cogeco aims to assist these data requirements through its latest facility and wholly-owned cloud and network infrastructure.
An increasing number of IT departments are implementing cloud and managed services. The expansion of corporate data will therefore be regularly stepped up. In a statement, Michael Levy (News - Alert), analyst for Data Centres, 451 Research, said, "The adoption of cloud and managed services, coupled with increasing pressure by employees bringing their own devices demanding the implementation of new, user-friendly applications, has accelerated the growth of corporate data. The availability of redundant data center and cloud infrastructure backed by strong network capabilities will be key to an organization's success and for data center providers such as Cogeco Data Services."
By 2016, data center traffic is expected to touch 6.6 zettabytes, comparable to 44 billion HD movies. Nearly 66 percent of this traffic will, however, be related to cloud computing. In order to keep in pace with this swift development, companies need to employ a powerful data centre and cloud provider, capable of storing and administering very large volumes of data in a speedy manner.
Tony Ciciretto, president of Cogeco Data Services, said, "In this 'age of acceleration,' businesses are exponentially increasing the amount of data they produce and are required to manage increasingly complex IT environments. Organizations are looking to experienced service providers to help them move, manage and store this influx of information and our new flagship data center in Barrie, paired with our expert technologists and dedicated customer support is an ideal fit to meet this demand."
The latest data center has been developed to offer sophisticated cloud, managed IT and connectivity services surpassing Tier 3 (News - Alert) standards. Cogeco Data Services' data center footprint will now be extended by 60,000 square feet. The facility, located in the RCMP's earlier Security Control Centre for the G8 and G20 summits held in 2010, boasts high-tech tracking available day and night year-round, biometric access control, video scrutiny and protection.
