Prolexic Summarizes Widespread Impact of DDoS Attacks

Prolexic has detailed the widespread impact of Distributed Denial of Service or DDoS attacks across organizations. In order to tackle the DDoS attacks, organizations need to reorganize their DDoS defense approaches, with Prolexic being a major organization offering DDoS security services.

According to Prolexic, an organization needs to implement a DDoS security approach that covers all the teams and departments, and is not restricted to the IT department. The executive team in an organization needs to be well-informed regarding the various types of DDoS attacks, and the manner in which each kind influences various components and areas of a network.

A DDoS attack is not restricted to website downtime and possible financial losses. If an organization is not ready and defenseless, its brand status and customer opinion are at stake. DDoS attacks can close down e-mail and customer service call centers if network infrastructures and routers are the main target, resulting in loss of communication with customers, associates, vendors and also employees.

Several organizations have experienced temporary drops in stock prices and unpredictable variations due to investor apprehensions as a result of DDoS attacks. A website’s search engine ranking may be hampered in the case of a prolonged outage as search engine companies do not route users to sites that are not working or performing at a snail's pace.

In a statement, Stuart Scholly, president at Prolexic said, "DDoS is typically thought of as only an IT issue, since attackers typically target and bring down Internet-facing network elements and applications. Unfortunately, DDoS has become an enterprise-wide issue with adverse effects that go far beyond IT."
