Qwilt, Limelight Networks Collaborate for Video Delivery Technology

Qwilt has entered into a strategic association with Limelight Networks (News - Alert) Inc. with an aim to develop solutions especially for content and service providers. As part of the technology association, the developed solutions will considerably decrease infrastructure scaling expenses for the content and service providers. The solutions will also aim to enhance the quality of experience (QoE) for their subscribers.

In a statement, Peter Coppola, vice president of market development at Limelight, said, "We want to enable massive consumption of video by delivering the content as close to the consumer as possible. This technology partnership is another example of Limelight innovation and our ongoing commitment to enhance our service offerings. The combination of our world-class video CDN and Qwilt's video caching technology will enable the next wave of online streaming media consumption."

Solutions that will tackle the exponential development of Web-based or "Over-the-top" (OTT) video content will be developed by Limelight and Qwilt. Aiming to connect with the consumer, OTT video normally navigates both long haul or transit and short haul or backbone networks.

The long haul is optimized by the content delivery network or CDN from Limelight as it offers video content directly to the operator network. The ground-breaking transparent caching platform from Qwilt stores and offers content at the network edge, very near to the consumer, thereby optimizing the short haul. Video delivery right from the content provider source servers to the network edge, near to the consumer will now be restructured with the incorporated offering from Limelight and Qwilt.

Content delivery solutions can now be set up as part of the technology association. These offerings will offer advantages to all, the network operators, content providers and the consumers.

Alon Maor, CEO and co-founder of Qwilt, said, "As Qwilt continues to grow, we are constantly looking for technology partners that enhance our overall offering for network operators. Limelight's proven CDN track record and our shared vision for the online video experience make them a perfect partner."

Qwilt is formed and staffed by industry professionals from Cisco, Juniper, BroadSoft and Fortinet (News - Alert).
