Gainspan Signs Distribution Partnership with Future Electronics

Gainspan Corporation has revealed today that it has signed a worldwide distribution partnership with Future Electronics. The partnership will help improve and expand Gainspan’s current distribution network. Gainspan’s portfolio consists mainly of low-power Wi-Fi modules, evaluation boards, and application development kits (ADKs). One of the primary applications for Gainspan’s technology is low cost implementation of Wi-Fi connectivity for other devices and appliances.

"Future Electronics' size and their strength in demand creation support our strategy to aggressively grow our worldwide customer base," said David Casey, vice president of Worldwide Sales, GainSpan. "With their strong wireless market focus, access to key vertical markets such as lighting, energy, security and home and building automation, and distribution agreements with GainSpan MCU partners, we believe our two companies align very well. We are confident that Future's team of engineering and sales professionals will be very complimentary to our existing channel."

Kelly Murphy, director of marketing, RF & Wireless Solutions, Future Electronics, also commented on the benefits of the partnership for Future.

"With the increasing demand for connected home devices and appliances, and wireless connectivity in general, GainSpan's Wi-Fi products are a strong addition to our portfolio and offer cost effective solutions for these markets. In particular, the new GS2000 modules addressing Wi-Fi only applications as well as Wi-Fi/ZigBee combo requirements offer a differentiated option to our customer base.”

The partnership looks to benefit both parties. Gainspan, a spinoff of Intel (News - Alert), wants to connect things to the Internet via its chips and Wi-Fi modules. Future Electronics not only has an established and integrated distribution infrastructure, but the company also ranked third in component sales worldwide. Through the partnership, Gainspan will be able to increase its sales and Future Electronics will be able to reap the benefits of having products like the GS2000 added to its portfolio.
