Avago Technologies Launches Gate Drive Optocouplers

Avago Technologies has introduced its two latest groups of high speed gate drive optocoupler devices, the ACPL-P/W345 and ACPL-P/W346. Power MOSFET and Silicon Carbide (SiC MOSFET) used for high switching frequency applications like inverter, motor control and switching power supply (SPS) are safeguarded and driven by the 1A and 2.5A gate drive optocouplers. In terms of propagation delay, the ACPL-P/W345 and ACPL-P/W346 are two times faster than the older devices from Avago.

In a statement, Kheng-Jam Lee, marketing director of Isolation Products Division for Avago, said, “Avago continues to bring value to customers by setting new standards for optocoupler performance. With the introduction of the ACPL-P/W345 and ACPL-P/W346, Avago is in the forefront of development of new high speed gate drive optocouplers capable of supporting SiC MOSFET for next-generation energy-efficient motor control and power conversion applications.”

The latest group of devices from Avago features a maximum propagation delay of 120ns. While the ACPL-P/W346 features a maximum peak output current of 2.5A, the ACPL-P/W345 features a maximum peak output current of 1.0A. Both the groups feature rail-to-rail output voltage and Under Voltage Lock-Out or ULVO with Hysteresis. The minimum high Common Mode Rejection (CMR) is 50kV/µs. Both the groups also feature small stretched SO6 Package, thereby decreasing PCB board space and expense.

Paul Kierstead, director of Power Marketing for Cree (News - Alert), said, “We have evaluated Avago’s ACPL-W346 driving our first and second generation SiC MOSFETs. The fast switching performance of this new gate driving solution achieves very high power conversion efficiency. More importantly, this solution provides customers with a cost effective and easily available gate driving solution for Cree’s SiC MOSFETs.”

The latest ACPL-P/W345 and ACPL-P/W346 will be exhibited by Avago at the PCIM Europe 2013 exhibition, scheduled in Nuremberg, Germany from May 14-16. Avago will be present at Booth 7-266. Interested organizations can contact Avago for models of the ACPL-P345, ACPL-W345, ACPL-P346, ACPL-W346 and the appraisal board.

Avago Technologies is a major designer, developer and worldwide supplier of a comprehensive assortment of analog, mixed signal and optoelectronics components and subsystems. The organization primarily serves the wireless communications, wired infrastructure and industrial markets. The organization completely concentrates on III-V compound semiconductor design and processing.
