LogMeIn Collaborates with ARM to Fast-track IoT Products to Market

Bringing a product to market can be an expensive and time-consuming process. If the technology is new, this process can take even longer and cost more money. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the technology that is connecting everything together, and companies are eager to enter into a market that is estimated to be worth at least $1.2 trillion dollars by 2020, according to research by Machina.

In order to get established early, companies have to create products and services that keep up with the technology and be available in the marketplace with relative speed. LogMeIn and ARM (News - Alert) have announced a collaboration to speed up the process of introducing commercial products in the IoT.

They will be combining the Xively Cloud Services from the XivelyJumpstart Kit by LogMeIn and the mbed Platform by ARM to lower the cost and cut the time to bring the IoT products to market.

The Jumpstart Kit and mbed platform combine to start building connected devices with ARM-based microcontrollers. Using the Xively cloud platform, small firms, enterprises and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will be able to build connected devices and the cloud applications associated with them. By providing the infrastructure and platforms for product development, designers will spend less time and money on this step of the development process, and instead they can move on to their own innovation.

"ARM is increasing opportunities for innovation across the Internet of Things with easy-to-use platforms and standards that accelerate the creation of low-power, end-to-end solutions. LogMeIn's (News - Alert) Xively Jumpstart Kit harnesses ARM mbed to support the development of new IoT products. We are pleased that LogMeIn shares our vision for an increasingly interconnected, innovative and energy efficient world," said John Cornish, executive vice president and general manager, System Design Division, ARM.

The Xively connected product lifecycle helps organizations:

  • Develop – by building connected experiences that allow developers to get their devices, apps and services quickly and easily working together with Xively
  • Deploy – quickly turn prototypes into products
  • Manage – gain access to tools that let developers manage products ranging from one to one million with real-time support for the devices

"The Internet of Things signifies the next major wave of the Internet, one that we believe could even eclipse both the web and mobile waves combined, and presents a massive opportunity for businesses that want to create a new generation of compelling connected products. In order to make this happen, they need a simple, affordable way to experiment and innovate through a platform that will enable them to seamlessly move from prototype to commercial product, and then scale as demand grows," said Michael Simon, CEO of LogMeIn.

The LogMeIn and AMD (News - Alert) collaboration will give individuals and enterprises the opportunity to find solutions to problems without the expenses previously associated with developing a product. LogMeIn service has more than 125 million devices connected around the world with business collaboration, data backup, file sharing, remote control, system management and on-demand support across different platforms and devices.
