Upgraded Version of IceWarp Messaging Server to Debut in Q2 2013 with Document Management Features

IceWarp (News - Alert), a global messaging and collaborations solutions provider, announced that it is all set to release the next version of its IceWarp Messaging Server, the company’s flagship product - a highly integrated solution that includes Mail Server with dual Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus protection. The product also has add-on options such as the IceWarp GroupWare Server, Instant Messaging Server, Text Messaging Server, a unified WebClient interface, full mobile device synchronization and more. With a set of powerful document management features, the upgraded version is scheduled for release in the second quarter of this year. All testing relating to the new features have already been completed, according to the company.

In a statement, IceWarp explained that the new document management features are geared toward today’s mobile workforce, enabling access to e-mails and other corporate documents from a variety of devices. The newly added webmail-based document processing functions will allow organizations to use common document processing features directly from webmail. With this, organizations will be able to avoid the costs of subscribing to expensive platforms littered with an array of rarely used features.

Cost savings are not all; the new document management features are also expected to speed up document processing and to streamline workplace collaboration. Manually uploading files will become a thing of past, as in a few quick steps, users will be able to edit and save changes in a file. All a user has to do is pick one of the supported formats, name the file, add description notes, double-click to open in MS Office or Open Office, edit it there, close it and it’s uploaded back to user’s storage. Additionally, documents can be renamed directly from the file list (without risk of changing their extensions).

The new features will also allow for the creation and editing of plain text and rich text HTML documents directly from the browser, without having to open any other application on the desktop. The document can be edited in a familiar compose window, just like writing an e-mail.

MS Office documents can be easily edited in MS Office or Open Office using the existing feature that handles the download and upload of files from webmail to the desktop, and back, with a small snippet of JavaScript.

Collaborative editing is undoubtedly one of the most interesting features in the upgraded version of IceWarp Messaging Server. Under this feature, the lock/unlock functionality will allow users to lock documents while being edited so that users cannot overwrite each other’s changes. Each user has the option to lock his or her own document to prevent further changes.

Users can view the revision history for all changes made to a specific file, so that team members are aware of changes and can work with other versions of the document. The new features also allow team members to download, edit, and revert to a specific revision. Revisions can be added manually by clicking “New Revision” in a file’s properties tab, or automatically. Furthermore, notifications will alert all users to whom a file is accessible about changes to a particular document.

Chris Knott, IceWarp’s director of technology commented that IceWarp Messaging Server is on its way to evolve into one of the most powerful document management platforms.
