Appcelerator Releases a Module that Connects it to Backend Oracle Databases

The Appcelerator platform is designed to help enterprises create mobile applications that provide better mobile user experience. The platform has enabled over 50,000 mobile applications to be deployed on more than 131 million devices around the world. Companies such as eBay, Mark, Mitsubishi (News - Alert) Electric, NBC, PayPal and many others use this mobile platform because of the opportunities it offers developers in creating applications.

The latest addition to the platform is a module that connects applications powered by Appcelerator to Oracle (News - Alert) backend databases using Oracle Database Mobile Server, Berkeley DB and SQLite. This allows the applications a fast and secure mobile access as well as a secure off-line sync capability.

One of the biggest benefits of this new platform is that it provides exceptional syncing capabilities for mobile phones. If the device is outside of the network range it is still functional because it supports on device data processing that allows large data sets to be held remotely, which can be synchronized automatically later. For employees in the field that rely on Oracle systems but have network related problems, this capability is critical. The platform also provides encryption for data transport and storage on the mobile client.

"With this new module, enterprises will now be able to connect Appcelerator-powered mobile applications to critical enterprise datasets stored in their Oracle databases. Given the prevalence of Oracle in the enterprise, this effort can enable massive adoption of Mobile First strategies for enterprises," said Jeff Haynie, Appcelerator CEO.

The Oracle Database Mobile Server supports Oracle's high-performance mobile device data store Berkeley DB, and SQLite, an open source mobile device database that is capable of handling small and large data sizes. It is used in many open source and propriety products on everything from telecommunications to financial services. The on-device processing model allows mobile apps to keep functioning even when there are no signals.

"Mobility brings new possibilities to the enterprise to reach even more users with a fundamentally greater impact than the web. Our customers are using geo-location, augmented reality and other mobile-specific capabilities to transform every aspect of their businesses, including once-limited areas like field service and supply chain management. Now, the enterprise workforce has secure access to all of their critical data when and where they want," said Gamiel Gran, vice president of business development for Appcelerator.
