Spartan Chassis Connectivity and Mobile Hotspot Solution Deployed by FDIC

Spartan Chassis, a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, recently revealed its connectivity and mobile hotspot offering is now being leveraged by the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis.

The company specializes in engineering, manufacturing and marketing of chassis and aftermarket parts that are required in emergency response, recreational vehicle (RV), defense and specialty vehicles.

Dennis Schneider, pesident, Spartan Emergency Response said, “The benefits enabled by our Connectivity Solution will enhance safety, productivity and information access.”

“We are very optimistic about the market’s reaction to this technology concept and with stabilization of protocols and operating systems, Spartan can enter the market with offerings of this nature. Without effective communications, everything breaks down; but now Spartan has solved the issue,” Schneider added.

The solution leverages a multi-tiered approach that helps in managing data and hardware either from remote locations or on location. Integrating Bluetooth, cellular, and satellite protocols of connectivity, the Spartan chassis connectivity concept ensures portability and also suits the various form factors of different electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

In addition, it also synergizes the capabilities of these technologies with the apparatus and the department. Firefighters will benefit a lot from the monitoring features since it can control the apparatus remotely as well as schedule and plan apparatus maintenance, and maintain communications with other departments and authorities.

Yet above all, its response features to major power outages, either due to natural or civil disasters are optimized to empower fire fighters, said company officials.

Spartan Chassis, a unit of Spartan Motors, received a subcontract order from BAE Systems in November 2012,. BAE is a defense, security and aerospace company that supports continued production of the International Light Armored Vehicles, or ILAV’s, a threat-specific mine-protected vehicle.

The subcontract award includes an initial order of 24 ILAVs that will begin shipping in the second quarter of 2013 and was issued as a three-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, providing for the possibility of follow-on orders at a later date.
