New Micrel Voltage Supervisor IC Features Watchdog Timer, Manual Reset and Dual-Outputs

Micrel (News - Alert) a specialist in linear and power solutions, LAN and timing and communications solutions, unveiled its MIC826 +/-0.5 percent accuracy voltage supervisor which features manual reset input, watchdog timer and dual outputs in a compact and thin DFN package.

Serving the needs of portable applications this device comes in a small size featuring high integration, and low current consumption abilities.

Brian Hedayati, marketing vice president for high-performance linear and power solutions at Micrel said, “The MIC826 features a precision voltage monitor, manual reset, watchdog timer and dual outputs in a small package. This provides the designer with high integration while reducing solution size up to 70 percent compared to competing solutions.”

The MIC826 delivers eight reset threshold options and can be used to monitor 1.8V to 5V power supplies. Also the device features a +/-0.5 percent voltage threshold accuracy at room temperature besides featuring a +/-1.5 percent voltage threshold accuracy over a wide temperature range of -40degC to +125degC.

“The device also improves the accuracy of the power supply monitor by 1 to 2 percent versus the competition over the -40degC to +125degC temperature range. This makes it an ideal solution for portable, as well as industrial and automotive applications which require tighter accuracy over a wider temperature range,” said Hedayati.

The integrated circuit or IC requires only a low 3.8µA of supply current for power supplies that can be lower than 3.6V and 4.8µA for solutions that operate from a 5V power supply. The IC features an industry standard reset timeout period of 140ms (min) and a watchdog time output period of 1.6s.

The reset outputs provided by the IC are dual, active-high push-pull, and active-low push-pull outputs. The solution is available in a small form factor measuring just 1.6mm x 1.6mm x 0.55mm in a thin DFN package, added officials.

In related company news, Micrel introduced its MIC23450 and MIC23451, two triple-output, high-efficiency synchronous buck regulators recently. Micrel’s HyperLight Load technology was used in these regulators. The MIC23450 delivers two Amps per output and the MIC23451 provides one Amp per output.

Micrel manufactures products like advanced mixed-signal, analog and power semiconductors besides also communication, clock management, Ethernet switch and physical layer transceiver ICs. The devices are used by manufacturers of enterprise, consumer, industrial, mobile, telecommunications, automotive, and computer products.
