Teradata Introduces Mellanox InfiniBand Fabric-Based Computing, New Core Analytics Engine

Analytic data solutions company Teradata (News - Alert) recently made two new additions to the Teradata Unified Data Architecture in the form of a fabric-based hyper-speed nervous system, and a new core analytics brain, the Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse 6700 platform.

These additions are meant to enhance the ability to exploit data, regardless of its type.

Indeed, the Teradata Unified Data Architecture harnesses the power of Teradata, Teradata Aster and Hadoop, as well as other best-of-breed partner tools, to create a cohesive architecture. Because of this, Teradata is the first vendor to provide a framework capable of handling all types of data and any analytic techniques.

"With adoption of fabric-based computing, Teradata offers a high-speed, private analytic network with flexible configurations as the backbone of the entire Teradata Unified Data Architecture," said Scott Gnau, president of Teradata Labs, in a statement. "The speed of connection and robust management of fabric-based computing empowers our customers to take hyper-speed analytics and business insights to a new level."

Teradata, a leader in the 2013 Gartner (News - Alert) Magic Quadrant for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems, leverages a number of industry-leading components in its Unified Data Architecture from vendors including Intel and NetApp — and now Mellanox (News - Alert) InfiniBand for fabric-based computing.

Mellanox InfiniBand hardware was chosen to provide fast, reliable data flow and interconnection for all reporting and analytic applications that run on Teradata platforms, the Teradata Aster Discovery Platform and Apache Hadoop. Furthermore, InfiniBand offers communication that is up to 20 times faster for all elements of fabric-based computing for business intelligence.

As such, it offers the highest performance, scalability and reliability for the processing of large amounts of data, delivering results in record time.

The new Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse 6700 platform, meanwhile, leverages the benefits of fabric-based computing for differentiated, market-leading analytic capabilities. Indeed, this new platform offers superior workload performance — by 40 percent over previous versions on Intel (News - Alert) Xeon E5 processors — up to eight times more memory capacity per cabinet, significantly less energy use, and field-proven hybrid storage and system management.
