Disconnect 2 Promises Faster, More Private and More Secure Web

Now Internet users can control their online data and enjoy faster, more private and more secure browsing. Disconnect 2, the latest version of popular privacy and security software created by former Google (News - Alert) engineer Brian Kennish and consumer-rights attorney Casey Oppenheim, allows users to visualize and block more than2,000 third-party sites that track what they do on the Web.

With Disconnect 2, Web pages use an average of 17 percent less bandwidth and load 27 percent faster. Benchmarks of the 1,000 most popular sites have been used to optimize Disconnect 2 for speed. Additionally, it allows users to block potential sources of malware and encrypt the data inputted on popular sites so that cyber thieves can't steal personal data or hack into accounts over public Wi-Fi.

Disconnect 2 is available as browser extension for Chrome and Firefox and is priced per usage.  Promoters of the software will donate 5 percent of payments to not-for-profit organizations that share Disconnect's mission.

Disconnect was starting to increase awareness among Web users on how their personal data is collected and analyzed on the Internet and to provide them tools to control who can access their data. Many Web users are not aware that a large number of companies that track their browsing and search history sell that information to third parties without taking their permission. Additionally, the advertisements, analytics and social widgets on websites slow down the websites and exposes people to hackers.
