OpenStack Foundation Welcomes Juniper Networks as a Gold Member

The OpenStack Foundation promotes the development and adoption of the OpenStack cloud operating system, and is home to more than 7,000 individual members from 100 countries and 850 different organizations. Individual members participate in the OpenStack community through technical contributions or community building efforts.

Juniper Networks (News - Alert) believes that industry collaboration and the move toward open standards is critical to driving innovation across the networking industry. Its commitment to that notion has earned it a place as a Gold member of the OpenStack Foundation. This decision was taken at the OpenStack Summit, held in Portland, Ore.

"We are excited to welcome Juniper Networks as a Gold Member of the OpenStack Foundation. OpenStack has become the center of innovation for cloud networking, and we look forward Juniper's continued contributions based on their experience with service providers and global enterprises," said Jonathan Bryce, executive director of the OpenStack Foundation.

The OpenStack Foundation is helping empower an open community that will provide customers with the technology they need to deliver new services and products. OpenStack Foundation Gold members provide funding and pledge strategic alignment to the OpenStack mission. At any given time, subject to board approval, there can be a maximum of 24 Gold members.

Juniper Network’s broad solutions portfolio and its vision for the future of networking are expected to accelerate the adoption of OpenStack integrated architectures, creating an environment conducive to the development of applications for cloud computing environments.

Hence, as a Gold member, it will have enough opportunity to contribute to the OpenStack networking project, which aims at providing networking as a service in addition to tightening network integration.

By contributing to the OpenStack open source community, the company believes that developers and cloud providers will both stand to benefit. Also, Juniper's membership will provide a platform to cross-promote other major standards efforts.

According to Brad Brooks (News - Alert), vice president of strategy and marketing, by partnering with the company, Juniper Networks will be well positioned to support its larger goals as well as the development of OpenStack Networking.
