Enea Includes Fine-Grain Locking and Cascaded Deletes to its In-Memory Database Server

Enea (News - Alert) has announced that it has unveiled version 8.7 of the In-Memory Database Management System Polyhedra, and has also included locking and cascaded deletes to the Polyhedra family.

The Enea Polyhedra products are relational database systems designed for high-performance, high-availability embedded systems including communications, military and industrial automation among others.

The Polyhedra software runs in ‘user space’ and does not need any kernel modifications, special privileges or special installation, and comes in two main versions, Polyhedra IMDB (with both 32- and 64-bit support) and Polyhedra Flash DBMS.

The company has now added a database locking feature that allows an application to entitle part of the database, where others cannot make changes while the client with the lock is deciding on the changes it wants to make.

Administrators can also select locks that can be specified as pessimistic or optimistic and even get an option to automatically convert pessimistic locks to optimistic locks after a short period. The new locking mechanism is integrated into Polyhedra’s user-based security system that enables database administrator to control which tables, and which attributes of a table, someone can lock.

In addition to this, Polyhedra enables the database administrator to define cross-references between tables. The person creating the tables containing the foreign keys can decide whether the reference record should be deleted: instead of the default behavior of failing the transaction to maintain integrity, the reference can be set to null, or the record containing the reference can be deleted. This method is known as cascaded delete.
