Oracle Seeing 'Massive Adoption' of Cloud in India

Oracle (News - Alert) officials said the company is seeing “massive adoption” of cloud services across several industries in India.

“Cloud services are transforming the way businesses function and people are no more just talking about cloud, they are deploying it. We are seeing massive adoption of cloud across industries in India,” Oracle India managing director Sandeep Mathur told reporters during a press event in India this week.

While Oracle did not comment on India-specific numbers, company officials said its cloud service is used every day by more than 25 million users and more than 10,000 organizations.

A major trend in the Indian market is the increasing adoption of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) and Network-as-a-Service (NaaS), according to a recent TechNavio report. The rate of adoption of SaaS is expected to be high during the forecast period, 82.6 percent of the respondents said.

The cloud computing market in India is expected to reach $1.08 billion by 2015 from $110 million in 2010, according to research firm Zinnov.

Oracle also introduced five new Cloud Partner programs to give partners choice in how they grow their business in the cloud. Applicable to all Oracle partners, the new Oracle partner offerings for the cloud include:

  • Oracle Cloud Builder Specialization: New enablement resources provide partners who are selling and implementing Oracle’s hardware and software offerings with the expertise, tools and training they need to achieve a cloud-based specialization.
  • Oracle Cloud Referral Program: Through the program, any of Oracle’s 25,000 OPN members can receive compensation for Oracle Cloud business referred to Oracle.
  • Oracle Cloud Specialization Featuring RapidStart: Created in conjunction with Oracle development and consulting, RapidStart Cloud Specializations enable partners to deliver their own fixed-scope implementation offerings to get customers up and running on the Oracle Cloud based on proven best practices and methodologies.
  • Oracle Cloud Resale Program: Qualifying Specialized partners will have the opportunity to resell Oracle Cloud services, creating a sustainable new revenue stream over the lifetime of their customer’s Oracle Cloud subscription.
  • Oracle Platform Services for ISVs: ISVs can leverage a secure, flexible architecture to build and deploy new applications, or extend existing on-premise offerings to the Oracle Cloud without any additional infrastructure and platform investments to eliminate costly IT resources and accelerate time to market.

In other Oracle new, on the heels of announcing that it was purchasing session border controller market leader Acme Packet (News - Alert) for $2.1 billion, Oracle revealed in late March that it will acquire Morrisville, N.C.-based network signaling, policy control and subscriber data management company, Tekelec.

While not disclosing the terms of the deal, Oracle made the intentions behind the Tekelec move quite clear: “As connected devices and applications become ubiquitous, intelligent network and service control technologies are required to enable service providers to efficiently deploy all-IP networks, and deliver and monetize innovative communication services,” said Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Communications.
