The Apache Software Foundation's Apache Bloodhound Becomes Top-Level Project

The Apache Software Foundation announced that Apache Bloodhound (News - Alert) has moved from its position as Apache Incubator to becoming a Top-Level Project (TLP), an open source development collaboration tool that delivers intuitive management capabilities for software projects.

Gary Martin, Vice President of Apache Bloodhound said, “When Bloodhound entered the incubator it was a completely new project, though being built on top of the Trac framework has given it a strong foundation. Community growth and self-governing to the standards of a top-level project within The Apache Foundation has given the team invaluable experience.”

Apache Bloodhound as a software development collaboration tool features issue tracking, wiki and repository browsing based on Trac. Trac is an open source, Web-based project management and bug tracking system.

Bloodhound supports hosting of multiple projects, full-text search and an intuitive user interface. Also its tightly-integrated source code browser can work in tandem with Apache Subversion and Git. It also provides Wiki functionality and enables users to customize their experience as it is compatible with free plugins for Trac.

These features and capabilities make Bloodhound suitable for organizations that don’t want to store data in proprietary systems. Bloodhound is user-friendly and its responsive interface suits screen of all sizes including mobile phones and desktop computers.

“Becoming a TLP is fantastic recognition of the progress Bloodhound has made so far in adopting the ‘Apache Way’ but we do not plan to rest on our laurels. We actively welcome potential contributors and continue to look at ways of reducing barriers to contribution,” added Martin.

In related news, WANdisco a provider of high-availability software for global enterprises to meet the challenges of Big Data and distributed software development announced its support for Apache Bloodhound.

Originally submitted to the ASF in December 2011 by WANdisco, Bloodhound is a software development collaboration tool based on Trac that includes a Subversion repository browser, wiki, and defect tracker.
