Visualant Wins Fifth Patent for its ChromaID Technology

Visualant has won the fifth patent for its ChromaID technology right after it won the prestigious PRISM award at the SPIE Photonics West trade show in San Francisco.

The US Patent No. 8,368,878 B2 , "Method, Apparatus and Article To Facilitate Evaluation of Object Using Electromagnetic Energy,” has been awarded by the United States Office of Patents and Trademarks to Visualant.

ChromaID technology was developed over a seven-year period by Professor Tom Furness and Dr. Brian Schowengerdt, whose work has been awarded several patents. The technology is now being transferred into a ChromaID Development Kit and ScanHead module.

Visualant has even partnered with Sumitomo Precision Products to manufacture the scan head and reduce the technology to a reliable and cost effective form. Many devices embedded with ChromaID technology have the capability to read and record natural chromatic markers by structuring light onto a substance, through a liquid or gas, or off a surface. If scanned, the technology captures the reflected light using a simple Photodiode array and creates a unique ChromaID profile.

Now the fifth patent speaks about the company’s vision and commitment to introduce more efficient authentication, identification and diagnostic methods into the marketplace.
