AlertID Ups the Ante on Public Safety with Alerts on Sex Offenders

When AlertID was created in 2009, its primary aim was to help protect lost and missing children, but over the years has evolved to become a free public service that helps reduce crime and improve the safety of families and entire communities across the country by providing public safety alerts from trusted sources via online, e-mail and mobile applications.

This first of its kind online and mobile service makes an attempt to bridge the gap that exists between public safety and communities. It has recently expanded its service by providing (sex offender databases) SODs information and alerts to the entire state of South Dakota as well as 232 million other people across the U.S.

Although states are mandated to provide public access to their SODs, they are not required to notify residents in case the offender changes his/her address.

This is where AlertID differs. Members can see on a local map where the offenders are located in any neighborhood. If the offender changes his/her place of residence, moves into another neighborhood or near a child’s school, parents are automatically alerted.

As AlertID members can determine the geographic areas that they want to receive the alerts for, the free mobile app also allows members to access information when they are travelling to other areas. It also provides additional safety tips.

“Providing universal access to SOD information and alerts helps protect children,” said Ken Wiles, CEO at AlertID, and added,  “This information helps families make informed decisions about the places that they take their children and should be considered whether they believe they know the area or not.”

According to Chris Perry, director, Nevada department of public safety, AlertID has made a great impact in helping reduce crime and protect families by directly involving the community in policing efforts.

And that’s not all, the AlertID secure social network provides everyone concerned about the safety of communicating on social networks a safe and easy way to share important information quickly, and in many communities has partnered with law enforcement agencies to deliver local crime data to its members.

AlertID appears to be well on the way to evolving into a very good public safety and security resource.
