Geniatech Chooses Entropic MoCA

Entropic (News - Alert), a developer of semiconductor solutions, is well recognized for its USB bus-powered MoCA adapter reference design that enables OEMs / ODMs to bring innovative MoCA-based USB solutions to market. The company recently revealed that Geniatech is the latest customer to use its Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) silicon and software.

Geniatech will use Entropic solution to develop a USB bus-powered MoCA adapter solution for TVs and consumer electronics (CE) devices. Geniatech's new USB bus-powered MoCA-to-Ethernet Adapter is expected to easily connect service provider or CE devices to the MoCA backbone providing Ethernet-grade connectivity without the need for a separate power supply or to the need to pull new CAT-5 wiring throughout the home.

Geniatech is planning to make its new USB bus-powered MoCA adapter commercially available as early as from Q2 2013.

"We are proud to be working with Geniatech to bring our innovative USB bus-powered MoCA adapter to consumers and service providers, enabling the CE devices to have full wired connectivity to web," Servati added.

With simple installation, MoCA home networking can be added to any Ethernet-ready CE device or set-top-box already deployed in a consumer's home. After installation, the MoCA backbone can be used to deliver smooth HD video from over-the-top services, enable multi-room DVR solutions or simply distribute broadband service to other parts of the home.

As indicated, Geniatech will use Entropic's EN2584 MoCA 1.1 silicon. The USB bus-powered reference design will offer a small form factor, low power (<2.5W) solution at 100Mbps, a lower bill of materials since there is no need for an external wall power adapter and greater flexibility due to interoperability with all MoCA-based CE devices. The product also offers optional multi-band support for connectivity with various MoCA based Pay-TV provider networks.

"Service providers are looking for quality connectivity solutions to bridge more bandwidth and higher quality viewing to CE devices," said Fan, general manager, Geniatech.

"In working with Entropic we can build products to connect existing Ethernet-based CE devices to high speed MoCA backbones," Fan added.

MoCA is the de-facto home networking technology used by North American Pay-TV operators. Entropic is expanding MoCA's use into European, Latin American and Asian CE markets by driving innovation with a focus on delivering a superior user experience on any networked TV platform.
