GCT Semiconductor signs 3G/2G IP Licensing Agreement with LG

GCT Semiconductor, a designer and supplier of advanced 4G mobile semiconductor solutions, recently signed a 3G/2G IP licensing agreement with LG Electronics (News - Alert) (LG), allowing GCT to offer multi-mode 4G/3G/2G solutions to operators worldwide who are rolling out LTE.

“We believe this licensing agreement with LG will strengthen and enhance our 4G product roadmap, and enable us to support 3G/2G backward compatibility,” said Alex Sum, vice president of marketing and business development at GCT Semiconductor (News - Alert), Inc.

In its 4G LTE portfolio GCT offers GDM7240, a highly integrated full band FDD monolithic LTE single-chip, supporting all FDD LTE band classes and bandwidths. This compact solution includes an LTE (News - Alert) baseband, a high performance processor, a transceiver as well as an array of peripherals for connectivity and multimedia. The integrated radio transceiver provides a configurable direct conversion multi-bandwidth functionality supporting all LTE bandwidths. Moreover, the company also offers multi-mode LTE/3G/2G solutions.

GCT's products are system-on-a-chip solutions that integrate radio frequency, baseband modem and digital signal processing functions onto a single chip for the 4G LTE and WiMAX (News - Alert) markets. GCT was the first to commercialize single-chip solutions for LTE and WiMAX. GCT's proprietary technology and system-level expertise enable it to provide complete 4G platform solutions, which are differentiated by their small form factors, low power consumption, high performance, high reliability and cost effectiveness

Meanwhile, GCT recently announced that its LTE single chip delivers fast and reliable 4G LTE connectivity to LG Electronics' new mobile ultrabook and tablet, based on Windows 8. GCT's LTE single-chip is fully compatible with the USB-IF Mobile Broadband Interface Model (MBIM), allowing for easy integration into next-generation mobile computing devices. GCT's solution, embedded into a Windows-8 certified mobile broadband modem, enables LTE connectivity in LG's brand new Windows-8 line, including the 14" U460 ultrabook as well as the tab book ultra Z160, both currently available with LGU+.
