Provider of managed cloud hosting for businesses worldwide, ServInt recently released a major update to its auto-scaling cloud platform, Jelastic.
Calling this latest update to Jelastic more than just an “iterative enhancement,” Reed Caldwell, founder and CEO at ServInt, said it represents two fundamental shifts for the product. These two shifts are “the addition of true IaaS capabilities in the form of the new, Jelastic-powered virtual dedicated server (VDS) platform, and a totally new pricing structure that rewards Jelastic PaaS and IaaS customers with some of the deepest volume discounts in the cloud industry.”
In addition to volume discounts on cloud resources as high as 75 percent, available only from ServInt, the update also includes the “new reserved cloudlets” and a new Jelastic-powered VDS platform.
With the new reserved cloudlets, users can further minimize their cloud hosting costs by committing to resources on a monthly basis. And, the new Jelastic-powered VDS platform adds true auto-scaling IaaS capabilities to the ServInt product portfolio.
Company officials said the update also includes FTP support, caching in NGINX, and the latest versions of software stacks including TomEE and MariaDB 10.0. Moreover, unlike competitors’ platforms that force developers to code to specific APIs and adapt their applications to various constraints, Jelastic maximizes convenience for its users.
Since the platform is standard-based and can run on any Java or PHP application without any code changes, an app can be uploaded and deployed on Jelastic, easily and quickly. Plus, Jelastic can automatically scale any application, said company officials.
Matt Loschert, CEO at ServInt, said that with the new Jelastic VDS, users can essentially spin up a fully auto-scaling server environment, completely independent of any Java or PHP PaaS cloud they may be running.
“This enables users to run any non-Java/PHP components their apps may need, including mail servers, console apps, cron job schedulers, and more,” he said, adding that with a Jelastic VDS, users get true root access to their hosting environment, giving them as much control as they need over their online business.
In the new version, additional technical enhancements to the Jelastic platform include easier access to application files with FTP/FTPS; higher performance through file catching; more enterprise-ready servers with built-in TomEE; and more databases with MariaDB 10.0.
Company officials said the new version of the platform offers support for the FTP/FTPS protocol, which provides an easy and reliable way of file sharing and data transfer to and from servers in Jelastic environments.
Jelastic 1.9 now supports caching in NGINX – for both NGINX-balancer and NGINX PHP server.
The new edition also comes with Apache TomEE, the enterprise issue of Apache Tomcat, to meet demand for a more enterprise-ready server. It is touted as the first PaaS offering MariaDB 10.0 as well, said to be the most advanced database in the SQL world.
Earlier this year in January, ServInt introduced an ordering system called the ServInt Custom Shop.
