New Micrel Synchronous Buck Regulators Feature HyperLight Load Technology

Micrel (News - Alert) specializing in linear and power solutions, LAN, timing and communications solutions unveiled the MIC23603/303 family of 4MHz PWM 6A/3A synchronous buck regulators that feature HyperLight Load technology.

A provider of IC solutions Micrel offers advanced mixed-signal, analog and power semiconductors and also communication, clock management, Ethernet switch and physical layer transceiver ICs.

Brian Hedayati, vice president of marketing for High-performance Linear and Power Solutions at Micrel said, “The MIC23603/303surpasses the competition by offering a best-in-class combination of efficiency, smallest size and transient response, making it suitable for many applications.”

The regulators are based on an architecture that enhances transient performance with just 5mV of output ripple in full PWM mode. It synergizes low-loss proprietary power MOSFET with its patented constant on-time DC-to-DC switching converter scheme delivering optimum output current and power efficiency.

The regulator can be used in set-top boxes, portable instruments, and automotive instrumentation applications for powering FPGAs, ASICs and DSP ICs. It is especially suitable where ultra-fast transient response and light-load efficiency is required.

“System power designers must continuously strive to optimize power efficiency in order to extend battery life while delivering the high performance features customers demand. Micrel’s patented HyperLight Load architecture provides very high efficiency for low power modes and fast load transient response to maintain the precise supply rail voltages when power demand increases,” added Hedayati.

The MIC23603/303 buck regulators offer a power good (PG) output with programmable soft start and very low quiescent current. The device is of small form factor and comes in a thermally enhanced 20-pin 4mm x 5mm DFN package in case of the MIC23603 and in a 12-pin 3mm x 3mm DFN package for the MIC23303.

In November 2012, Micrel introduced the MIC4414/15, two low-side MOSFET drivers which can be used in switch mode power supplies, solenoid drivers and motor drivers. Micrel serves manufacturers of enterprise, consumer, industrial, mobile, telecommunications, automotive, and computer products.
