Gartner Rates Nirvanix in Top Two Among 10 Top Vendors for Cloud Storage Services

As IT departments shrink, cloud services are taking over to provide storage and other applications. Cloud storage services provide an invaluable resource when systems go down because of a malfunction or a security breach. The research from Gartner (News - Alert), titled “Critical Capabilities for Public Cloud Storage Services," looks at 10 vendors to determine their performance under several different parameters.

Nirvanix (News - Alert) was rated excellent by the research, and fared in the top three in all of the categories.

The analysis conducted by Gartner compared 10 public cloud storage providers by measuring six critical attributes across four different scenarios. The companies in the research were:

  • Amazon S3
  • AT&T Synaptic
  • Google (News - Alert) Cloud Storage
  • HP Cloud Object Storage
  • IBM SmartCloud Enterprise Object Storage
  • Internap AgileFILES
  • Microsoft Windows Azure Blob Storage
  • Nirvanix Public Cloud Storage
  • Rackspace (News - Alert) Cloud Files
  • SoftLayer Object Storage

The six attributes it looked for the research were accessibility, manageability, pricing, resiliency, security and compliance, and value-added services.

As defined by the research firm, public cloud storage services comprise the software and hardware Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) market. The companies providing the service have to supply storage service off-premises. This must include a self-service model with on-demand features with elastic storage capabilities.

The four-user case scenarios used to evaluate the companies were primary storage, backup, archive and content distribution.

"We feel Nirvanix's rating in Gartner's Critical Capabilities for Public Cloud Storage Services report is a reflection of our relentless focus on specializing in enterprise-class cloud storage services. We continue to focus on delivering extremely high service levels and new cloud storage innovations to enterprises worldwide," said Dru Borden, CEO at Nirvanix.

In the research, key findings about public cloud storage showed the industry is young and service varies greatly from vendor to vendor. While all of the providers were intent on showing their pricing structure, security protocols and resiliency, only a few sought to provide ease of management, reliable services, support, turnkey capabilities and value-added services SMBS and enterprises need.

Nirvanix provides enterprise-class cloud storage services for a global customer base made up of SMBs and Fortune 500 companies. It is the only company that offers a fully managed public, hybrid and private cloud storage with pricing structures based on usage.
