Bringing Back IT Control to Organizations with Centrify's New Windows Azure Cloud Solution

With the rapid adoption of SaaS (News - Alert) applications and BYOD programs, IT departments and organizations have been losing control of endpoint devices and backend application resources. Centrify Corporation, however, wants to bring back this control with the introduction of the new Windows Azure cloud offering.

The solution extends Microsoft (News - Alert) Active Directory and ensures SaaS apps and other cloud deployments are centrally secure and have controlled access. In addition, the solution will offer end users the option of a Single Sign On (SSO) to address the password sprawl problem. Having a centralized management for both on-premises and cloud user digital identities will help provide the visibility and control needed to achieve compliance, reduce costs and mitigate risks.

All of these come at no cost to productivity and without compromising security on user centric mobile platforms.

It has become increasingly important to strengthen identity in the face of eroding organizational boundaries due to federation and outsourcing. The increasing adoption of mobile devices and cloud services has created real problems for enterprise control of IT, which must be regained through Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) offerings. By building on the Windows Azure cloud platform, which utilizes security and identity core technologies like Active Directory, Centrify hopes to offer an on-demand identity service across an organization’s data center, cloud and mobile infrastructure.

More and more people within organizations are using cloud services and apps that reside outside their own IT department. In order to help the IT department keep control of these services, the Single Sign On and password management services provided by Centrify will provide a one-stop point to manage these accounts, including access of apps on mobile devices.

The Centrify DirectControl for SaaS will offer a MyCentral portal, where organizations can have one-click access to all their mobile SaaS apps in a self-service environment that lets them locate, lock and wipe mobile devices.

Centrify’s solution is clearly one that solves the age-old cloud problem of user management, meeting corporate policies while reducing helpdesk calls for account lockouts and password resets.
