IXYS Integrated Circuits Division has added a new member to its triple stage protection solid state relays, the CPC1593, which combines load current-limiting with over-voltage protection and thermal management.
The company has introduced this bidirectional relays to help users get over the harshest operating environments for off-AC line applications. The CPC1593 comprises an isolated SSR feature that enables load voltage of 600V peak maximum, continuous load current of +/- 120mA maximum and an on-resistance of 35 Ohms maximum.
The new CPC1593 offers over-voltage protection, which gets activated when the voltage across the switch is greater than 21V and the device is in current limit. The over-voltage protection deactivates the switch while allowing a restricted load current of less than 100uA to flow.
In case the voltage across the switch gets below the over-voltage threshold, the switch resumes normal operation, and if the fault persists, the over-voltage response will repeat offering the best protection for the load and the switch itself.
The company has fixed the current limit specification in an AC/DC configuration with +/- 285mA maximum and 570mA in the DC configuration. A thermal management circuit in the CPC1593 monitors overall die temperature in a fault condition, and further restricts load current to protect the relay and load.
The CPC1593 has already gained UL, CSA and EN/IEC (News - Alert) approval, and is mainly aimed at AC power line environments where there are chances of faults happening for extended periods of time. The relay is designed to survive extended power cross conditions.
The company is currently offering CPC1593 in sample and production quantities with a lead time of six weeks after receipt of order.
