Brennercom Deploys DataCore SANsymphony-V Storage Hypervisor

The ever increasing production of data in every walk of life has been compelling enterprises to look for advanced and secure solutions for the proper management of huge amounts of data.

Brennercom S.p.A., a provider of advanced information and communications technology (ICT) solutions, has successfully deployed the SANsymphony-V Storage Hypervisor by DataCore Software to enhance the overall business continuity and performance for its virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and cloud services.

Based in Bolzano, Italy, Brennercom has its branch offices in Trento and Verona, and develops customized solutions for various business needs, and maintains secure and efficient fiber optic network as well.

DataCore Software caters to the needs of enterprises seeking rapid performance and maximum utilization from storage in virtual and physical IT environments. Its SANsymphony-V storage hypervisor works independently of any specific hardware setup to make it possible for businesses of all sizes to establish, replicate and protect storage effectively.

Companies can leverage the SANsymphony-V storage hypervisor to administer their corporate data in a consolidated manner upon various hardware storage solutions, while the synchronous mirroring features added by DataCore ensure the robust protection of this data.

“The virtualization and common central management provided by the DataCore storage hypervisor considerably reduced our IT division’s work load,” commented Roberto Sartin, head of Technical Division at Brennercom. “New systems can now be fully set up for users within 10 minutes, unlike the laborious, many hours and days set-up required to install physical server storage systems in the past. Fast provisioning and capacity expansions can now be easily implemented via the central console with a few mouse clicks in the event of an acute need for storage.”

A hardware-based storage area network (SAN) that can offer stable, high-performance VMware View VDI for 160 desktop platforms would cost around four times more than the virtualization software from DataCore.

Further, it fulfills the storage needs for all of its virtual machines running on VMware vSphere.

“As is the case in other industries, business continuity is an absolute necessity for us. By making use of the DataCore solution within the virtual infrastructure created by VMware vSphere and VDI, we cannot only ensure that we meet these corporate requirements, but also guarantee optimal cost efficiency as a result of the hardware independence of the solution,” said Dr. Karl Manfredi, chief executive officer at Brennercom. “This affects both the direct investment and the indirect and long-term cost of refreshes, expansions and added hardware acquisitions. We have thus created the technical basis for our external IT services, and within this framework we are creating the most flexible and varied range of cloud services possible.”

In March 2011, Brennercom connected Weissenbach and Pens in South Tirol to the wireless broadband network of BB44+, a joint operation of Brennercom, Raiffeisen Online and Run that provided wireless broadband services in 44 municipalities plus 46 districts in South Tirol – where DSL was unavailable.
