HSBC Bank UK Deploys Centrify Suite 2012

HSBC Bank, one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world, is deploying the Centrify Suite 2012 to manage security and auditing centrally for its IT operations worldwide.

Centrify Corporation is the leading provider of security and compliance solutions that centrally secure, control and audit access to mobile devices, on-premises and cloud-based systems and applications.

HSBC would thus be using Centrify to improve auditing, manage user accounts and to secure access worldwide.

HSBC is headquartered in London and has more than 7,200 offices in more than 80 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific region, America, Europe, Africa and Middle East. The central IT staff of HSBC manages thousands of user accounts across its UNIX and LINUX systems.

The processes of access control, privilege management and reporting on user access are of a critical concern for Audit and IT teams.

Paul Sharpe, Enterprise Technical Specialist, Global IT Operations with HSBC, said Centrify's product functionality sets it apart from anything else on the market by consolidating complex user and computer access into a streamlined and easy-to-manage arrangement within Active Directory. It was a massive plus for them.

Sharpe went on to add that they had reviewed several vendors, but Centrify Suite's underlying Zones technology was by far the best approach for them to maintain compliance and simplify their processes.

"We had multiple goals for this project including enforcing password policies, user account consolidation in Active Directory, and auditing requirements,” said Sharpe, prior to deploying Centrify. “We needed to manage our Linux and UNIX systems in a centralized manner and wanted to leverage an existing directory infrastructure. The result was a decision to acquire the best technology to meet our needs, and after careful evaluation we chose Centrify."

"HSBC is a global financial giant in the industry, with a dynamic IT organization that demands the highest level of performance and ROI," said Darren Gross, Centrify Regional Director for EMEA. "We are extremely proud that they have selected Centrify to help manage their security needs for centralized user management and auditing, and we look forward to a long-standing, mutually successful relationship."

The Centrify Suite 2012 enables the organizations to centrally secure, control and audit access to mobile devices, cross-platform devices and other applications by leveraging Microsoft (News - Alert) Active Directory, an infrastructure they already own. The suite that consists of DirectControl DirectAuthorize, DirectAudit , DirectSecure and DirectManage delivers role-based access control, mobile security management, secure authentication and single sign-on, privileged identity management, user-level auditing for Windows and UNIX systems, encryption of data-in-motion and server isolation.

It is built on an integrated architecture, enhancing regulatory compliance initiatives, strengthening security and reducing IT expense and complexity.

Centrify has been broadly accepted in highly regulated industries that have constantly shifting compliance and security landscape such as banking, security and insurance, where there is specific need for rigorous internal auditing and risk management.

It can scale up to enterprise-wide projects where implementation of role based, granular access is difficult.
