The Intel Expressway API Manager Designed to Simplify Cloud API Management

Enterprises looking for an API management solution usually have to securely compose, govern and expose existing data and services and inform and educate developers on API usage and availability. To make it easier for businesses to track and manage their cloud and mobile development apps, Intel and Mashery (News - Alert) have partnered to provide a solution.

The Intel Expressway API Manager is designed as an API sharing portal for developer communities to provide backend integration that exposes legacy application assets and data. It will also allow enterprises to maintain existing Web services investments and streamline a variety of devices with any number of channel integrations. This will allow enterprises to quickly repurpose application assets for mobile consumption.

The Intel (News - Alert) Expressway API Manager tool was designed by Mashery. Intel and its partners have entered into an agreement with Mashery to resell the tool and packaged the API sharing portal with its security/service gateway.

The new tool will allow enterprises to own what they must and outsource what they can, thus gaining the true benefits of cloud economics, IT control, security and vertical integration. Such a platform would also allow large enterprises and service providers to address API management and governance use cases arising from the consumerization of IT, monetization of existing services and the need for self-service APIs.

The benefit of such a platform goes beyond just providing a developer portal. The tool will have the ability to create APIs with standards applied for onboarding security and testing. APIs without documentation and weak adoption essentially remain invisible and with the ability to evangelize this API, this adds business value to help launch new APIs with minimal IT impact.
