Molex Unveils Next-Generation Sealed Rectangular Connector System

With increased wiring needs and demands for hybrid technology, commercial vehicle applications, especially agricultural machinery, are becoming more intelligent. Designed for high circuit count applications in harsh environments, the new generation of these machineries provides a rugged, sealed, wire-to-panel (bulkhead) and wire-to-wire hybrid connection system.

Exploring the opportunities in this field, Molex (News - Alert) Incorporated has unveiled the Sealed Rectangular Connector (SRC) System, which is created for high circuit count applications in tough environments. These environments include those found in agricultural machinery, construction and mining equipment.

Suited for applications located in tough atmospheres and offering an integral, two-way matte seal with improved retention, the new SRC system passes IP69k testing. Also, by getting rid of the need to buy, handle and crimp individual wire seals, the utilization of field-proven MX150 (control) and MX150L (power) terminal technology assists non-automotive transportation OEMs achieve considerable production cost savings.

“Commercial vehicles are becoming more intelligent with increased wiring requirements and demands for hybrid technology,” said Denis O’Sullivan, global product manager, Molex. “The primary location for our system is the firewall connector, situated between the cab and the engine, but it also can replace existing circular connectors in various in-vehicle applications.”

While the MX150L terminals are rated up to 40A, the Molex SRC system makes use of MX150 terminals with current ratings up to 18A. With the help of a sliding latch with cam action, the SRC achieves single-handed blind mate functionality.

Recently, the company announced that it will introduce the QuickConnect and Fast Start Up capabilities of Brad HarshIO modules at Pack Expo International, October 28 - 31, in Chicago. Part of the Molex HarshIO series of industrial I/O modules, the QuickConnect feature is designed for use with Ethernet/IP protocol products and the Fast Start Up capability is designed for use with PROFINET protocol products, the company stated.
