Tier 1 Global Operator Implements Procera's Intelligent Policy Enforcement Solutions throughout Russia

One of Russia’s largest voice and data services providers, VimpelCom has deployed Procera Network’s PacketLogic platforms in nearly 43 cities nationwide.

Procera Networks’ (News - Alert) PackeLogic Intelligent Policy Enforcement (IPE) solutions are being utilized by the carriers, service providers and enterprises worldwide to proactively manage the quality of their network, create and deliver new services, get detailed business analytics on network utilization and bandwidth consumption and mitigate security threats.

The European operator implemented a number of Procera's IPE platforms and PacketLogic Intelligence Center (PIC) solutions, including several PL10000 series platforms, PL 8000s, and PICs plus bypass switches for additional network resilience and availability.

The PL10000 series platforms provide up to 120Gbps of throughput in a single system and can scale up to 2Tbps in a multi-system, according to company statement.

In an effort to gain "live" traffic analytics for its extensive network, VimpelCom performed operational and laboratory testing using Procera's PacketLogic Intelligence Center (PIC) solutions. The testing was performed in conjunction with technology system integrator Jet Infosystems.

The company found that over 50 percent of broadband resources were being consumed by peer-to-peer file sharing.

The findings helped the two companies design a solution that specifically meets VimpelCom's requirements.

One of the world's largest integrated telecommunications services operators, VimpelCom provides its services through a range of traditional and broadband mobile and fixed technologies in Russia.

“VimpelCom's intercity backbone spans all of Russia and is unique in its size and topology,” said VimpelCom's director of the Transport Network, Alexey Sapunov. “We needed a partner to work with us in developing a solution that specifically meets our dynamic bandwidth management needs, and provides remote analytics and traffic management to cost-effectively optimize our massive infrastructure. Procera's granular visibility and intelligent policy enforcement solutions allow us to deliver a high quality of experience for our customers.”
