Lexar, a flash memory product manufacturer, today unveiled two new microSD cards: the Lexar High-Performance microSDHC UHS-I and the microSDXC UHS-I. Meant for use in smartphones, tablets and sports camcorders, the UHS-I cards boast a Class 10 speed classification, delivering read transfer speeds up to 300x, or about 45MB per second.
This high data transfer rate allows users to take full advantage of today's mobile technology, offering faster image capturing, storage, playback and transfer of media files – especially crucial for 1080p HD and 3D video capture.
The microSDHC UHS-I card features 32GB of storage, while the microSDXC doubles this for 64GB of high-speed flash storage. In other words, the UHS-I line of flash storage cards is ideal for the modern media-heavy user as the 64GB microSDXC card can store under 25,000 eight-megapixel images or about 14,000 songs.
"Mobile devices are increasingly being used to capture all of life's important moments, and the expectation to capture high-quality video is becoming the norm, so people need a reliable and efficient way to store and manage this content," said Manisha Sharma, director of product marketing at Lexar. "High-capacity, high-speed storage solutions like the Lexar High-Performance microSDHC UHS-I and microSDXC UHS-I cards give people the right mix of capacities and transfer speeds to let them record these events and relive them later, quickly and easily."
The 64GB microSDXC card, according to Lexar, leverages Micron's latest 64Gbit, 20nm process technology NAND flash memory. Combined with Lexar's die-stacking techniques and "uniquely engineered firmware," the company was able to produce a microSD card with a high capacity and performance.
Of course mobile users often need to transfer data from their mobile devices onto a desktop; Lexar also recently released the Multi-Card 25-in-1 USB 3.0 Reader for just that purpose, taking full advantage of newer SD and microSD transfer rates with USB 3.0 connectivity.
