Virident Solves Application Speed With Flash Storage Solutions

When it comes to IT, performance and capacity need to be optimal at all levels. In the data center, organizations need to maximize the use of valuable data center space and reduce data center sprawl. That’s where Virident (News - Alert) comes in.

With backers such as Cisco, Intel, and Mitsui among a few others, Virident provides flash storage solutions that speed application performance, ensure predictable performance under various workloads and are compatible with all servers. Their FlashMAX II is a Storage Class Memory (SCM) solution that offers enterprises total performance combined with high storage capacity, and yet it touts the smallest footprint.

The company recently showcased their FlashMAX server-side flash solution at VMWorld, as their flash storage was chosen for its performance scalability and simple integration with VMware View.

Earlier this year, ESG Lab validated benchmarks created by Virident to accurately measure enterprise flash-storage performance. The ESG Lab brief documents the challenges of benchmarking enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs) using current tools and concludes that Virident’s General Public License (GPL) licensed SSDBench benchmark utility is ideally suited to address the challenges associated with predicting the performance of SSDs with application workloads.

According to Virident, the advantages of deploying server-side flash storage include improved application performance and lower latency; improved speed and reliability compared to HDDs; lower capital costs due to less infrastructure; and operating expense savings.

“What people are doing is they’re rethinking traditional architectures around how they would deploy storage in a large environment, like where you have a big cluster of servers to provide your applications. They’re moving the performance tier storage from network storage into the host tier now by using a product like this,” said Jeff Sosa, director of product management at Virident in an interview with TMCnet.

Learn more about what Sosa had to say on the matter of flash-based application storage solutions in the video below.
