Riverbed Technology Improves IT Infrastructure Performance

Riverbed (News - Alert) Technology improves network infrastructure performance and networked applications  in a flexible and efficient way. Thousands of companies utilize Riverbed, and its products can be employed for diverse uses, which have become increasingly important given the rapidly changing technology environment.

“We don’t know what the trends will be six months from now,” Nik Rouda, senior director, Solutions and Verticals at Riverbend, told TMC (News - Alert) CEO Rich Tehrani in a recent interview. “There’s change going on right now in IT at a rate that’s probably beyond what anybody is used to dealing with.”

“We want to give … flexible infrastructure to be able to support and adapt to that,” he added.

Riverbed's flagship product is considered the Steelhead Appliance – a networking appliance which optimizes data traffic and bandwidth utilization across a wide area network (WAN). Steelhead has captured almost half of the relevant market share – more than twice the share had by the nearest competitor.

The Steelhead product line — including physical appliances, Cloud Steelhead, Virtual Steelhead, Steelhead Mobile and Steelhead Cloud Accelerator — improves throughput and application performance by up to 100 times, the company said in a statement.

Riverbed also uses the Riverbed Optimization System, a software platform.  ROS improves application acceleration; optimizes bandwidth; consolidates IT infrastructure; and accelerates backup and replication.

Riverbed’s solutions are used in many diverse sectors, such as architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, finance, banking, legal, insurance, professional services and government agencies.

Riverbed products are available through distributors, value-added resellers, systems integrators, service providers, and directly from the company. Riverbed has also partnered with several enterprise IT vendors to create the Riverbed Technology Alliance (RTA).

In recent company news, Riverbed revamped its Whitewater cloud storage portfolio – a cloud management software solution – so it can let enterprises manage and support more backup data workloads, according to TMCnet, now providings four times the disk storage capacity on–premise and in the cloud, as well as two times the memory.

Started in 2002, Riverbed now has some 19,000 customers in different industries. It was also estimated that over 80 percent of businesses on the Fortune 500 use Riverbed’s solutions.
