Digital Rapids Announces New Software Updates to Its Encoding Solutions

Digital Rapids recently announced the introduction of new software updates for its Digital Rapids Stream software supporting its StreamZ, StreamZHD, and Flux encoding solutions. Among the new features are - Closed Caption for supporting live streaming with Adobe Flash technologies; automated advertising insertion support; improved H.264 and MPEG-2 encoding; integration with Irdeto (News - Alert) and Motorola Mobility's content access and security solutions. The StreamZ Live family of live streaming encoders as well as the Digital Rapids Transcode Manager automated file transcoding software will also feature similar features.

In a release, Darren Gallipeau, product manager at Digital Rapids, said that, "While our solutions have earned their reputation for delivering superior encoding quality, there continue to be opportunities for further quality enhancements, and we're pleased to be bringing such gains to our customers in our upcoming updates. Meanwhile, as content and rights owners refine their multi-screen content monetization strategies, robust support for their chosen content security and rights management technologies and the ability to streamline their advertising workflows become increasingly imperative in enabling their success."

The new software updates will serve to further build on Closed Captions capabilities as they enable improved preservation of captions while converting differing frame rates and allow embedding of CEA-608 and 708 captions in live streams that support Adobe (News - Alert) Flash Player and Adobe AIR applications. The Closed Caption capabilities are in particular essential for enabling content accessibility by hearing impaired viewers and for ensuring compliance with legal requirements of online video.

The upcoming version 3.8 additionally provides support for automated advertising and monetization workflows with the inclusion of HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) protocol. Cueing messages within live input sources are easy to identify thereby automating the insertion of markers into HLS outputs for initiating downstream events.

The Stream 3.7.4 update will support integration with the Irdeto Control content management system further building on the company's third-party integrations which support Microsoft (News - Alert) PlayReady technology in securing Internet Information Services (IIS) Smooth Streaming content. Stream 3.7.4 will also provide support for the Motorola (News - Alert) SecureMedia Encryptonite ONE HLS+ content security solution.

By introducing new software upgrades, Digital Rapids will effectively enhance the quality, performance, and configurability of its award-winning H.264 and MPEG-2 encoding solutions.
