AXTEL Selects IBM System Storage

Recently, IBM (News - Alert) announced that IBM System Storage was selected by AXTEL, a telecommunications service provider in Mexico for an overhaul of its IT infrastructure.

With this, AXTEL will look to support the company's expansion into new markets and an ever-growing customer base.

The IBM System Storage helps users manage a variety of storage workloads that exist in today’s complex data center, and do it effectively and efficiently. By supporting a mix of random and sequential I/O workloads for interactive and batch applications, regardless of whether or not they’re running on one of today’s popular distributed server platforms or on the mainframe, this flagship IBM disk system can bring simplicity to a storage environment.

AXTEL required improving its customer relationship facilities to allow cross- and up-selling more effectively, apart from having to support more customers in more markets with additional services. AXTEL chose IBM to re-architect its infrastructure of servers and storage devices with IBM Power Systems and IBM advanced storage systems to solve this problem.

AXTEL sought seamless integration with the company's SAP (News - Alert) installation, apart from improving overall system performance and efficiency, and lowering costs, the company said in a recent statement.

IBM recently released its second-quarter 2012 earnings results. The uncertain global economy was a challenging backdrop to the usually stable technology company. Despite a downturn in revenue amid Europe's economic jitters, IBM’s second-quarter earnings increased six percent. This announcement marks IBM’s 38th consecutive quarter that its earnings have increased from the previous year.
