ConteXtream Builds Software-Defined Networking for Carriers

ConteXtream is a software company which provides the first cloud-based network virtualization framework for carriers, cloud service providers and private cloud operators.

Its solutions lead to efficiency, cost savings and improved management – and come in response the changing needs of carriers.

“The network of carriers is going to resemble a Google-like data center,” Joel Brand (News - Alert), vice president of marketing at ConteXtream, predicted to TMC CEO Rich Tehrani in a recent interview.

Adding, “There is no reason why you couldn’t run the network of a carrier out of a data center, leveraging technologies, like virtual machines, like software defined networking, running on software rather than big custom hardware components. We build the infrastructure for that.”

In other recent news, ConteXtream announced the availability of ConteXtream Grid for Cloud and Managed Hosting providers.

ConteXtream Grid network virtualization software lets customers offer tenants sophisticated networking and security; get optimal utilization of physical resources; see lower capital costs for network infrastructure; and reduce operating costs.

“ConteXtream’s Grid product is unique in its ability to help service providers bridge their physical and virtual infrastructures,” Lauren Robinette, an analyst at ACG Research, said in a company statement.  “This allows them to attract enterprise customers to the cloud with on-demand services such as cloud bursting that complement the server infrastructure they already own.”

Based on Software-Defined Networking (SDN), the ConteXtream Grid is a distributed virtual L4-7 switch. It works as an overlay on existing networks to connect an unlimited number of endpoints to a flat network, the company explained. ConteXtream Grid is also different from other SDN solutions.

“ConteXtream is eliminating barriers to cloud adoption with a market-proven solution that provides superior mobility of end points, flexible allocation of resources, and granular security services within and between data centers,” Brand added in a company statement. “Our solution enables service providers to quickly react to the elasticity demands of customers by spinning up and down resources as their business require.  With ConteXtream Grid, cloud and managed hosting companies have access to a commercial network virtualization solution that mirrors the likes of which Amazon and Google (News - Alert) have created for their own infrastructure.”

ConteXtream is backed by such investors as: Benhamou Global Ventures, Gemini Israel Funds, Norwest Venture Partners, Sofinnova Ventures, Comcast (News - Alert) Interactive Capital and Verizon Investments, according to a company statement.
