Zadara Storage Brings Enterprise Storage to the Cloud

Zadara Storage isn’t a typical storage company when it comes to data protection. The company is known for its Virtual Private Storage Arrays. VPSAs are connected to cloud servers, allowing users to choose between SSD, SAS, or SATA drives depending on their specific needs.

Earlier this year, the company partnered up with OpSource (News - Alert), Inc., an enterprise cloud and managed hosting business, to bring to businesses VPSAs. With OpSource, cloud users have the option to migrate mission-critical applications to the public cloud while maintaining performance. The VSPAs also make it easier to configure virtual storage arrays to their exact specifications.

Zadara Storage also teamed up with Sanbolic to bring enterprise storage to businesses using Amazon Web Services (News - Alert) (AWS) and Rackspace Hosting.

How these partnerships work for Zadara is that Zadara buys or rents hardware within the data centers of Amazon, Rackspace (News - Alert), and OpSource and then sells that storage paired with their proprietary software for SaaS, databases, analytics, and critical applications.

“We’re providing a premium alternative to the native storage that those companies provide,” said Noam Shendar, VP, business development for Zadara Storage. “There’s actually dedicated racks of equipment, that we operate, that are collocated with those clouds. We dynamically, based on customer request, and in real time, allocate portions of that pool of resources to customers. To them it looks like they’ve just created for themselves a storage array.”

Customers of Zadara typically use a combination of their storage solution offerings to cater to their own needs.

Zadara recently completed a $7 million first round of funding to help get the word out about its service back in July, led by Genesis Capital Advisors and Platinum Management, as well as two unnamed investors.
