LucidWorks Brings the Power of Search to the Enterprise

When someone thinks of search, more often than not the names Google (News - Alert) or Bing will come to mind. We are such a data-driven society that we’ve even turned Google into its own verb when in conversation. But when it comes to the enterprise, while Google and Bing are serving the consumer base, there is LucidWorks.

Formerly known as Lucid Imagination, LucidWorks offers enterprise-grade embedded search solutions for search, discovery and analytics. The company started by providing support for the Apache Lucene/Solr open source search project, as well as documenting and training. Since its inception, the company has grown to offer its own product, LucidWorks Search in 2011 and LucidWorks Big Data in 2012.

Due to the success of its LucidWorks solutions, the company changed its name so that the two remain synonymous with each other.

Earlier this year, LucidWorks announced its integration with SugarCRM (News - Alert). The integration allows SugarCRM customers to gain all of the benefits of search and discovery using the Apache Lucene/Solr right inside their software.

Later on, the company’s product was selected by Microsoft (News - Alert) to be offered as a Search-as-a-Service product in Microsoft’s Windows Azure Marketplace.

Example use cases for LucidWorks Search include Search-as-a-Service for websites, embedding search into SaaS (News - Alert) product offerings, and prototyping and developing cloud-based search-enabled applications in general.

LucidWorks also launched Big Data earlier this year, a development stack that combines multiple open source projects including Hadoop, Mahout, R and Lucene/Solr to provide search, machine learning, recommendation engines and analytics for structured and unstructured content.

“We launched our Beta for our Big Data back in May. We’ve had tremendous response from very large companies to very small companies, and we’re going to work that through the summer and go to general availability with that technology in the fall,” said Paul Doscher, CEO, LucidWorks.

Listen to more of what Doscher had to say about LucidWorks, search in the enterprise and the future of search opportunities in the video above.
