SanDisk Goes Beyond the Consumer with Enterprise Flash Storage

SanDisk (News - Alert) is a company name that is synonymous with storage. Chances are, if you own a digital camera, you’ve seen a SanDisk memory card, from SD Cards, to its microSD Cards to its CompactFlash Cards.

On the enterprise level, SanDisk has taken its flash memory technology and put it into products that companies and data centers use across the globe. Earlier this summer, the company announced the acquisition of Schooner Information Technology, an enterprise software company, to complement SanDisk's growing portfolio of enterprise solid state disk (SSD) and flash-optimized software offerings. Schooner's products will be optimized for SanDisk's enterprise SSD portfolio as well as for enterprise SSDs from third parties.

SanDisk’s SSDs, the Lightning Mixed-Use SSD Applications, are designed to meet the needs of the enterprise, such as multi-user applications like e-mail servers and virtual desktops where performance is critical to getting work done.

Under FlashSoft, SanDisk is able to help organizations reap the benefits of SSDs without the cost of replacing an existing HDD infrastructure.

“We have customers in financial services that need to do analytics on large data sets, and we have customers that are trying to increase the performance or migrate business critical applications into virtual machine environments, so those are our use cases where reducing I/O latency in the server is going to deliver an enormous benefit,” said Rich Petersen, director, software marketing for SanDisk.
