Funambol Survey Reveals Preference for Personal Cloud Storage

The demand for storage of data is high and it will continue to rise. A whole set of devices like portable drives, USB keys, PDAs, etc. are now being created for individuals to allow them to store their data.  But with these devices, the chances of theft or accidental loss are high.  This is where personal cloud storage comes into the picture.

Although personal cloud storage has been on the rise in the last few years, how important is this for the users? Funambol (News - Alert), a provider of white-label personal cloud solutions for mobile providers, decided to find out.

Recently, the company published the results of a worldwide survey of consumers where it asked about their views on personal cloud storage (PCS) services. The survey asked 42,500 consumers about PCS services. Seventy-four percent stated that they would utilize a PCS service from their operator. Seventy-seven percent responded that this would make them less likely to switch operators if they used their operator's PCS service, the company stated in a press release.

“Operators face mounting pressure to reduce churn and increase loyalty, and many are considering personal clouds to do both," said Hal Steger, Funambol VP of marketing. "This report provides further proof that operator personal clouds can significantly increase loyalty and reduce churn and that the financial benefits can be enormous. Based on these results and market conditions, operators need to move quickly before it's too late.”

Recently, the company announced that for the second year in a row it was selected by AlwaysOn as an OnMobile Top 100 winner. Inclusion in the OnMobile (News - Alert) 100 shows leadership among one's peers, game-changing approaches and use of technologies that interfere current markets and entrenched players. Allowing mobile providers to go to market with their own brand and it works with all major smartphones, tablets, PCs and other devices, Funambol's white-label personal cloud solution, OneMediaHub, is similar to Apple (News - Alert) iCloud.
