By Tanya PaltaViewCast (News - Alert) Corporation publically announced its active support of the open source community through its partnership with KernelLabs, which is an alliance of concurring Linux software engineers. The coalition’s main ambition is to enhance the Linux platform for audio / video applications and with its expertise in delivering video technology to mobile devices, ViewCast fits right in. The idea is also to keep the Linux module in the public domain so that the developers are free to invent.
The ViewCast and KernelLabs partnership mainly entails working together to develop Linux drivers for the latest Osprey video capture cards by ViewCast. It also highlights ViewCast’s commitment to delivering quality solutions for all integrators. Linux drivers for the Osprey 260e, 460e and 820e capture cards were also recently made available through the KernelLabs website and then the drivers will be presented to the resulting Linux kernel and then made available directly in the Linux distribution thereafter. The alliance also certifies that it is in complete compliance with the GNU General Public License (GPL) guaranteeing that the whole Linux community will be privy to future improvements and enhancements.
The Osprey series is a professional-quality computer card series devised to capture audio and video from standard analog sources to high-definition digital sources. ViewCast's partnership with KernelLabs exposes the Osprey Linux drivers to the open source community. The series include features like cropping, scaling, de-interlace, and watermarking and via the on board SimulStream technology, an Osprey capture card can deliver video data from a single input to multiple applications.
"By supporting the Linux platform, we are broadening our potential customer base and bringing our solutions to a wider variety of business and innovators. A large segment of ViewCast integrators and customers utilize Linux in their business, reinforcing the need for solutions in the Linux community," said ViewCast president and CEO, John Hammock. "Our continuous work with recognized Linux driver development organizations such as KernelLabs supports this initiative."
