Industrial Defender Partners with Elster to Make Better use of Ultility Resources

Industrial control systems (ICS) professionals are troubled with various problems on the job today. One among them is complexity. They're introducing new technologies, handling different types of vulnerabilities and threats, and hitting moving compliance targets.

As business conditions force them to find ways to do more with less, resource constraints pose other problems.

To overcome these issues, Industrial Defender, a source of security, compliance and change management solutions for automation systems, partnered with Elster, a provider of advanced metering technology and Smart Grid solutions, to offer Industrial Defender's solutions to utility customers throughout North America.

According to the agreement, the two companies will jointly provide and market Elster's EnergyAxis Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system and Industrial Defender's Automation Systems Manager (ASM (News - Alert)) solution.

ASM is the industry's first unified security, compliance and change management solution specially created for automation systems.

“For more than a decade, the Industrial Defender team has been exclusively focused on meeting the unique needs of owners and operators of industrial control systems,” said Brian Ahern, president and chief executive officer at Industrial Defender. “Their requirements have guided our innovation, the most recent example of which is our outstanding ASM solution. Whether they are small or large, gas, electric and water utilities throughout North America today are facing a range of technology and business issues.”

Through advanced cyber security and automation systems management capabilities, this agreement provides utilities the ability to enhance their operational systems. Individuals can simply use their existing investments and infrastructures with integration between ASM and EnergyAxis, the company stated in a news release.

Recently, the company partnered with Good Harbor Consulting to contribute to efforts by important infrastructure operators to improve their cybersecurity posture in the face of threats. For infrastructure owners and operators, the deployment and networking of information technology in critical infrastructure and the ever-changing threat and regulatory environments create new cyber risks.
