Atlantis ILIO Storage Optimization Software Deployed on Cisco UCS in Maine Hospital

Atlantis Computing and GreenPages (News - Alert) Technology Solutions announced the deployment of Atlantis ILIO storage optimization software on the Cisco Unified Computing System.

Mid Coast Hospital in Maine picked this software to be part of its VMware View implementation. This is expected to help streamline IT operations besides offering reliable virtual desktops for physicians, nurses and staff in the hospital.

In a release, Michael Poulin, Manager of Network Services at Mid Coast Hospital, said, “With virtual desktops, it is much easier for us to deploy new applications, to make changes on the fly and get desktops out to our physicians, nurses, and staff very rapidly.”

“The new system allows us to manage PCs more efficiently and effectively while reducing overall operational costs and increasing reliability for providers and staff,” Poulin added.

Keeping in mind the time, Mid Coast Hospital selected VMware View to deliver virtual desktops as a service for its urgent care center and also GreenPages Technology Solutions (News - Alert) to design and deliver a virtual desktop infrastructure. The VDI infrastructure in the new care center had to become functional within 90 days.

Francis Czekalski, senior enterprise consultant, GreenPages Technology Solutions revealed that Mid Coast’s IT team maintains several desktops in its healthcare system. The new care center required more number of computer systems with optimum storage capacity.

To avoid deployment risks and to make the new facility functional within 90 days, GreenPages enlisted Atlantis ILIO to eliminate chances of complex storage sizing and to make the system faster with no storage issues. Atlantis ILIO optimizes VDI by bringing down the required storage capacity and enabling the use of less expensive storage.

GreenPages officials explained that a virtual desktop infrastructure was designed with VMware View and Atlantis ILIO storage optimization software running on Cisco (News - Alert) UCS servers employing local storage. Also the storage optimization enabled by Atlantis ILIO lets the infrastructure take care of boot storms, re-compositions, and patching optimally.

In case of clinical applications Atlantis ILIO works faster in virtual desktops than on a physical PC, said Czekalski.
